Jasmine Chen is a jazz singer and songwriter from mainland China. Born in Liaoning province, she began studying classical music in England in 2000. While at Leeds Conservatoire, she founded her first jazz band in 2003, serving as the band leader and singer. Jasmine graduated with honors from Leeds Conservatoire in 2004, majoring in classical piano performance. In 2005, she returned to China to pursue her true passion for singing in Shanghai and has since become a leading figure in China’s jazz scene. Her unique style blends Western jazz with Chinese musical elements, introducing Chinese folk and traditional music to the Western world and bringing Western jazz to Chinese audiences. Jasmine performs globally, from local Shanghai jazz clubs to international jazz festivals like the renowned Rotterdam’s Northsea Jazz Festival and concert halls.

8th and 9th June, Jasmine performed with the Jazz Association Singapore Orchestra (JASSO) at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre 新加坡华族文化中心, led by Singapore’s “King of Swing” and Music Director Jeremy Monteiro, and Associate Music Director Weixiang Tan, as well as two talented Singaporean singers Joanna Dong, and Melissa Tham at Jazz It Up! A Jazzy Celebrations of Chinese Songs《爵士也华彩》!
Jasmine Chen “Shanghai 1930” Jazz Concert
28th April 2019, Jasmine Chen “Shanghai 1930” Jazz Concert took place at Shanghai Oriental Art Center, Jasmine together with the A team filled with local and international talent from musicians to production crew. Having the chance to be back at Shanghai Oriental Centre after a 9 year hiatus – and to perform in front of a 1000 strong audience – is gratifying.

Jasmine Chen performed Shanghai Jazz in “Crazy Rich Asians”
Jasmine Chen acted in 2018 Hollywood smash hit “Crazy Rich Asians” movie, directed by Jon M. Chu, as herself. Six of her songs appear in the movie, and three are featured on the movie’s soundtrack.
